Psallamus

Singers Wanted!

Competent Sops, Altos, Tenors and Bass/Baritones are invited to join a small but expanding a capella choir which serves the Traditional Latin Mass Community at St Aloysius, Caulfield in the celebration of the Liturgies according to the Missale Romanum (1962).

Practice times:
Wednesday: 6.30pm - 7.30pm or 8.00pm
Sunday: 9.45am — 10.45am

Mass time: Sundays 11.00 am. Other times, according to the feasts and holy days of the Traditional Calendar.

Chant repertoire: Gregorian Chant propers and ordinaries from the Graduale Romanum.
Polyphonic repertoire: mostly from the 16th century (Palestrina, Victoria, Byrd, Tallis, Josquin Desprez, Clemens non Papa, etc) but also embracing later works which conform to the requirements of Catholic liturgical music.

An ability to hold a line solo against other parts is essential. Being able to learn a part quickly—either by sight singing or by excellent memorisation — is also of the utmost necessity. New members not familiar with chant will be given instruction, and will be expected to engage in some private practice if necessary. There will be a calibrated program of integration into the choir.
