Visit of Superior General of Institute of the Good Shepherd: Fr Luis Gabriel Barrero, Superior General of the Institute of the Good Shepherd, to which Fr Murphy belongs, will be visiting Australia in May. He will be accompanied by Fr Mateusz Markiewicz, the Secretary General of the same Institute, and a friend of the Parish. The intention of the visit is a pastoral visit to Fr Murphy as well as building on connections across Australia. Fr Barrero will celebrate the Solemn Mass next Sunday, 12th May. We look forward to receiving him, and to welcoming back Fr Markiewicz

Ascension Thursday is this Thursday, 9th May. Masses will be at 7 am, 10 am (both Low), and 7 pm (Solemn). The Novena of Preparation for Pentecost begins the next day (Friday 10th May). Easter Duty: one’s Easter Duty (the worthy reception of Holy Communion) should be completed by Trinity Sunday (26th May).

Liturgical catechesis is held in the school hall from 9.30 – 10.00 am every Sunday. We are studying the text of the Ordinary of the Mass (that is, the unchanging parts). Doctrinal catechesis (for adults) is held in the school hall two Saturdays a month from 11.30 am – 12.30 pm. The next class will be on Saturday, 11th May. The basic text is Bishop Athanasius Schneider’s catechism, Credo (this is available for purchase from St John Henry’s book room). Registration is not required, but participants are expected to commit to regular attendance.

Bible Study will continue on Tuesday 14th May from 6 pm – 7.30 pm in the school hall. We will continue our study of St Matthew’s Gospel. Newcomers are kindly requested to register with Fr Murphy
.

Fortes in Fide: The Newman Parish’s young adults group, Fortes in Fide will be meeting again on Tuesday 7th May beginning with Holy Hour at 6:30pm. This month’s talk is on Our Lady and true maternity. Please note that Fortes has permanently to relocated to Saint Aloysius church. For more information visit : facebook.com/NewmanYoungAdults

Social Dance Class: the next social dance class hosted by Fortes in Fide for young adults will take place on Friday 10th May 7pm – 8pm in the school hall. A $10 donation is suggested. There will be a cup of tea in the hall beforehand, following the 6pm Mass.

Latin Classes: it has been gratifying to see a high level of interest expressed in Latin classes. Weekly Classes will be on Saturdays at the school hall from 3.00 – 4.30 pm, commencing 1st June. Those wishing to commit to the course are now asked to register by sending an email to the Secretary, entitled “Latin Registration”, with their full name and ‘phone number. Attendees are asked to acquire their own copy of the Cambridge Latin Course, Book 1 (4th edition). This is available at Dymocks for $36.95. The first three lessons in June will be free. For those who then decide to remain in the class, a small registration fee will be requested.

Centenary Mass for St Aloysius’ Church: there will be a Solemn Mass at 10.30 am on Saturday, 25th May, to mark the 100th anniversary (to the day) of the first Mass celebrated in St Aloysius’ Church. Parishioners are invited to stay afterwards for a picnic/BBQ lunch (we especially encourage young families to attend), finishing with Vespers & Benediction at 3.30 pm.

Confirmation: the Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred by Bishop Elliott on Saturday, 27th July. Parents are now invited to register their children by contacting the Secretary. The usual age for Confirmation is 10-13. Any adults who have not been confirmed are also invited to register. The last day for registration is Tuesday, 7th May.

Easter offering envelopes: these are now available in the vestibule and in the pews. Your offerings are for the support of the priests who serve you in the Parish of St John Henry Newman. Envelopes should be placed in the first collection. Thank you for your generosity.
